In 1997, a year after Beit El Safa Girls’ Home (Home of Serenity) was established, four year-old Zahra (meaning “flower”) came to live at the home, to find shelter from an abusive home life. When she first arrived, Zahra was scared. The tears just rolled down her cheeks at the thought of letting go of her mother’s hand to take hold of ours.
At first, life at her new home was difficult. Zahra missed her mother so much but gradually, with our Lord’s help, she began to adjust.
Zahra lived at the Home of Serenity for 14 years. From 1st Grade through 12th Grade, Zahra excelled in her classes. As a teenager she helped her house mother care for the younger girls. She was a good role model to the other girls and everyone loved her.
In July 2011, Zahra graduated from high school. A year later, the Lord miraculously provided for her tuition and expenses to attend the American University of Beirut, one of the best universities in Lebanon. Zahra is now in her second year of Computer and Communication Engineering. She is a bright and capable girl and looks forward to what God has in store for her in the future.
Zahra probably didn’t hear about Jesus until she came to live at the Home of Serenity. She is growing in her faith and we are praying this will blossom into a personal relationship with Jesus.
