Myanmar Projects

Myanmar, once known as Burma, is a southeast Asian country that borders China, India, and other nations. Just 60 years ago, it was one of the most prosperous countries in southern Asia, but after a 1988 military coup, it slowly became one of the poorest nations in the world. Beautiful and varied landscapes stand in stark contrast to the poverty that plagues one-third of the population.

The children of Myanmar are often the hardest hit by the dire circumstances. Malnutrition, AIDS, forced labour, and child abuse are prevalent, and the mortality rate for children under five is six times higher than in the UK. It is estimated that 20% of children receive no education, and conscription of children as young as 14 into dangerous militia activities is not uncommon.

Our work in Myanmar is centred around serving children at the Dawei Care Center. The needs here are many, but we trust that God will continue to faithfully sustain our ministry to vulnerable children in Myanmar.
