Manchay Oasis Care Centre and School

Manchay Oasis Care Centre and School

Manchay Oasis School and Care Centre is based just outside Lima. Poverty here is widespread. Homes in this area are often shacks made of cardboard or tin, and have no running water, sanitation, or electricity. Malnourishment, neglect and abuse are rampant.

Our school offers a ray of hope to children brought up in this dreadful poverty by providing a quality education, which is absolutely imperative to get out of the poverty cycle. We also provide nutritious food, love and care to all of the pupils. Without these interventions, it is highly unlikely that the children would receive any education at all.

Our Care Centre provides additional support, notably our House of Glory initiative, which serves vulnerable teenage mums and their babies. Our staff, including a psychologist and social worker, help the girls work through their own traumatic pasts and learn to care for their babies. Day care is also provided so the girls continue their schooling or skills training. We have even established a micro enterprise programme teaching sewing and knitting as income-producing skills.

We also connect churches and mentor couples with poor families, offering resources like trauma care, counselling and general love and friendship.

Looking forward we are passionate about further developing our vision of restoration of healthy family relationships. This is only possible as we look to Jesus as the source of our strength, and we pray that our work will bear fruit in the lives of the families of Manchay.

Manchay Oasis Care Centre and School: A story of hope

Meet Pedro (name changed to protect privacy)

Pedro is only seven years old, but his life has already been full of pain and loss. He is the youngest of five children in a home marked by dysfunction and full of emotional, social and financial problems. With his father in prison for rape and his mother unwilling to provide adequate care or protection, Pedro is at risk for many dangers.

But we are thankful that Pedro attends our school and care centre, where he receives healthy food every day and hears about how much Jesus loves him. Because of generous sponsors, he is receiving an education that will help him break out of poverty and avoid the cycles of violence in his family and community.

As he learns and grows, we will follow up with his extended family and provide the help he needs. Pedro is doing well in our programme and we have great hope that his traumatic past will not determine his future.
