Sponsor Alaa at our special Christian school for Syrian refugees in Lebanon

Alaa is a bright and creative girl who is almost 8 years old and attends our Dar el Awlad school in Lebanon. She dreams of becoming a teacher one day so she can help others learn and grow. Alaa enjoys maths at school and shows a thoughtful, focused approach to her studies. In her free time, Alaa loves drawing, dancing, and spending time with cats. Her favourite colour is pink, and she especially enjoys eating mloukhiye (a traditional Middle Eastern green stew made from leafy greens). At home, Alaa shares life with her family and her brother, and brings a gentle, creative spirit to those around her. Your sponsorship will support Alaa as she grows in confidence and learning. For privacy reasons, Alaa’s photo has been blurred, but we will share a clear photo if you choose to sponsor her.

Why Alaa needs you to sponsor her

About a quarter of Lebanon’s 6 million population are Syrian refugees. Traumatised by war, many fled Syria on foot across the mountains into Lebanon, where they now live in squalid conditions such as this container, stateless and lonely in a country that doesn’t want them.

Many are unemployed in a country that is in itself in economic turmoil, too scared to return to Syria. Children are years behind with their education, some as old as 13 who have never been in a classroom. Many suffer from the trauma of war.

How your sponsorship will transform Alaa's life

Your sponsorship will fund Alaa’s education at our ‘Dar el Awlad’ complex in Beirut, including free food, trauma counselling and family support. All in a loving Christian environment with daily devotions, Bible studies and prayer.

You will receive twice yearly updates about Alaa and you can send her messages, especially on her birthday and at Christmas (research has shown that children with sponsors tend to do better due to an increased sense of self-worth and general wellbeing).

Thank you for sponsoring one of the world's most vulnerable children!
