The boys and staff at the Kids Alive Boys Home in Kenya are praising God for His provision. After many long months of red tape and bureaucracy, they have finally been connected to the city power grid! The first phase, providing the transformer and power for lighting and the running of appliances, was connected in June!
An amazing gift from one of our church partners, St. Peter's Church in Harold Wood, was key in enabling this project to be completed - we are so thankful to them for their support!
The new power connection is greatly improving the running of the home, as communication is much easier with a reliable power source. In addition to the convenience and stability that the new electricity has brought, the cost of running the home has also been greatly reduced as staff no longer need to buy as much petrol to power the generator. According to Isaac, the manager at the Boys’ Home, the boys are also “very excited to finally be finished with using kerosene lamps” and are happy to have real, electric lights to do their evening chores, studies and play time. Mary, the Boys’ Home Accountant says “We thank God because now we will be able to acquire some computers for our boys to improve and enhance their education”.
To celebrate and give praise to God for this great blessing, the staff and boys organized an “Electricity Bash” that took place the end of June. The celebration included prayers and speeches from the staff and prominent members of the community, as well as a feast of Pilau and sodas, and games for the kids. There were over 200 people in attendance - the staff and kids of the Karundas Children’s center were in there, as well as our National Director. In all the day was one of joyful reflection of all of the blessings God has given the Boys’ Home in this last year!
