Thank you to The Claremont Trust for helping us reach some of Kenya’s most vulnerable children with the gospel
We are incredibly grateful to The Claremont Trust for their generous donation of £1,000 towards our work with churches in the Nairobi slums of Kenya. The Claremont Trust is a wonderful foundation that provides funding for innovative faith-based initiatives aimed at addressing social needs and fostering inclusion within local communities both in the UK and overseas.
Through the Kids Alive Hope Centre project in Nairobi, we partner with local schools and churches to identify and support some of the most traumatised children (more information about our trauma care), helping not only to bring healing but also to change mindsets. We’re working to shift the narrative from seeing challenging behaviour as “naughtiness” to recognising the deep pain and trauma behind it.

With your support, we can go further, helping integrate vulnerable children into loving, Christ-centred church communities. As Nicholas Oyuga, our Project Manager, shares:
“We believe that when a child and their family have a relationship with God, they find hope, and with hope, they can thrive even in the most challenging environments.”
It may seem overwhelming at times, but we believe that even in the darkest places, God’s light shines the brightest. Together, we’re building a future where the slums of Nairobi can become safe, nurturing, trauma-free environments for every child.

Over 2.5 million people live in the slums of Nairobi, the largest slum network in Africa. Crammed in squalid housing, most live in extreme poverty and unimaginable living conditions.
Many live with HIV and most lack access to basic services such as electricity and water (50 households share one non-flushing toilet).

Drug and alcohol abuse are widespread, typically as a means to ‘numb’ life or quell hunger pains. Nearly 65% of families are led by single mothers, many teenagers. School drop-out rates are high.
Our pilot project here in 2023 showed that there are high levels of trauma, both amongst the children and their mums.
