"Alive Moments" August 2025 - inspiring snippets from around the world showing the impact our supporters are enabling us to have

LEBANON

In the heart of Lebanon, joy broke through the routine as the women of the Lighthouse ministry gathered for their annual end-of-school-year outing. It's a much-anticipated tradition that reminds each woman that she is valued, seen and loved.

These women, many of whom shoulder significant burdens at home and in their communities, rarely have the oppoortunity of getting away from the humdrum monotony of refugee existence. Your support gave them the gift of time, time to simply be. Surrounded by laughter, music, and the warm embrace of friendship, they danced, sang, played games, and shared a meal.

For a few hours, the stress of daily life faded into the background, replaced by joy, connection, and rest. This outing wasn’t just about fun; it was a vital act of restoration. At Kids Alive Lebanon, we believe that healing occurs when women are given the space to thrive.

The Lighthouse Project exists to walk alongside vulnerable women, offering support, skills training, and a path toward hope and transformation. And moments like this remind us that renewal isn’t just possible, it’s already happening, one joyful gathering at a time.

KENYA

At Kids Alive Kenya, we know mentorship is more than advice - it’s about planting hope, nurturing resilience, and pointing young hearts toward purpose.

That’s why we launched a 5-day holiday mentorship programme for 24 incredibly vulnerable teenagers, offering structure and guidance during a season when they’re most vulnerable to peer pressure, substance abuse, and risky behaviour. Through interactive sessions on perseverance, faith, and family dynamics, these teens explored what it means to grow with vision and intention.

One teenager reflected, “Now I understand my family more, I’m going to put into practice what I’ve learned.” That’s the impact we pray for.

We’re not just keeping youth occupied, we’re raising up the next generation of leaders. With every lesson and shared story, we sow seeds of healing, strength, and future hope.

ZAMBIA

At the Kids Alive Academy in Zambia, some of the country's most impoverished and vulnerable kids are learning far more than classroom lessons; they're growing in responsibility, independence, and the rhythms of daily life. One of the most unexpected ways they’ve begun to flourish? Gardening.

During their free time, many pupils have taken to the soil, planting and tending a garden of fresh, green vegetables. What started as a simple pastime has blossomed into a rich life skill. "Whatever life holds for these kids in the future, if they have learnt how to grow crops while they are with us, they will at least be able to feed themselves." Kapembwa Sinyangwe, Project Manager.

With plenty of fertile land across Zambia, this hands-on skill has real potential to impact their futures. Beyond nourishment, gardening has become a peaceful, grounding activity - a way for these young lives to witness the reward of steady effort and care. At Kids Alive Zambia, this is just one more way we're cultivating a future of wholeness and hope.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Each year during "Holy Week" (the week leading up to Easter), something extraordinary happens at our Kids Alive residential sites in the Dominican Republic Family Camp. It’s a beloved tradition that brings together children, youth, and staff for a week of play, worship and deep connection.

This year’s camp was held at the Ark Constanza campus, nestled in the scenic mountains, perfect for hiking, foot races, volleyball and joyful music. Campers enjoyed shared meals, crafts, and games, but the heart of the week was rooted in meaningful devotions and worship. Through every activity, children experienced what true belonging feels like.

For many, this was their first glimpse of a healthy, supportive community. Older youth mentored younger ones, staff modelled loving guidance, and everyone joined in a rhythm of encouragement, laughter, and faith. It’s more than just a camp - it’s a glimpse into the kind of family God intends: full of joy, care, and purpose.

Moments like Family Camp remind us why we’re here, because every child deserves to grow in love, truth, and the safety of a Christ-centred family.

GUATEMALA

Every Wednesday from February through to April, the girls at Oasis in Kids Alive Guatemala gathered to explore one of the most profound themes they had requested to learn more about: forgiveness. What emerged was a beautiful, Spirit-led journey through the life of Joseph - his trials, pain, redemption, and how God used it all for a greater purpose.

This 10-week devotional series wasn’t just about Joseph’s life. It became a mirror into the lives of the girls themselves, each one learning how to process pain and begin walking the road toward forgiveness and healing. Led by our Oasis devotional team and shaped with input from the 10 girls serving in leadership, each week offered space for reflection, connection, and growth.

To close out the series, something truly special happened. The girls and staff held a final devotional outdoors in the garden near the new team house. Surrounded by nature, under the stars and beside a campfire, they worshipped, shared a meal, and took time to testify to what God had taught them. Each house presented something meaningful - dramas, dances, and heartfelt stories of how the series impacted their lives.

Through scripture, prayer, and safe community, girls at Oasis are discovering that their pain does not define them, but by the God who brings healing on the other side of the trial.

HAITI

At Kids Alive Haiti, learning goes beyond the classroom! Students recently visited a shelter to see rare animals like caimans (like a small crocodile), turtles, lizards and rabbits. It was a chance to explore creation up close and expand their understanding of the natural world.

For many, this was their first encounter with these animals. One student, Stessie (pseudonym for safety), a 6th grader, reflected: “I really liked it. I learned a lot of new things about the animals’ lifestyles and how they reproduce… like how a lizard eats fruit and lays eggs!” Her excitement is just one example of how hands-on learning can spark curiosity and wonder.

Experiences like this reinforce our commitment to holistic education, helping students not only grow academically but also discover the beauty of God’s creation through direct engagement with the world around them.
